One of the focuses the Washington Commanders have had this offseason has been on upgrading their receiver corps, and the 2025 NFL Draft was no different.
With the 128th pick in the fourth round of the draft, the NFC East powerhouse selected Virginia Tech wide receiver Jaylin Lane, and they think they got a steal.
"We went around the room, and he had by far the most votes of anybody," Commanders general manager Adam Peters said on The Pat McAfee Show. "You had buy-in from R&D, buy-in from the coaches, from the coordinators, from all our scouts. At that point, it was just a matter of, ‘Hopefully he falls to us.;"
Peters was fully expecting Lane to be gone by the time the Commanders were on the clock at No. 128, but that was not the case.
The reason Peters was so surprised were because of the absurd numbers that Lane put up at the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis back in February. He ran a 4.34 in the 40-yard dash, recorded a broad jump of 11 feet, and had a very impressive vertical jump of 40 inches.
Lane is not the biggest wide out at 5-10, 191 pounds, but he more than makes up for it with his athleticism. The team also added Deebo Samuel to their wide receiver corps featuring Terry McLaurin, so Lane will have a couple of seasoned veterans showing him the ropes.
The 23-year-old receiver will go into his rookie season looking to prove to all of the teams that passed on him that they made a mistake.
