Wohler was picked 237th overall although he was projected to be picked earlier given his impressive combine stint.

He is expected to have a different role with the team according to scout Tyler Hughes.

“With how much sub-package we’re in, in the NFL nowadays, that dime linebacker role is nice for him, but that’s not going to limit him to play strong safety or free safety,” he said.

“He has the frame to play all of them.”

Wohler knows what is capable of in defense as he anticipates bigger challenges. He credits his college team for that.

“My freshman year in college, early on in camp and the first couple of weeks of the season, I was lost, to be honest,” the rookie told reporters.

“It was a wake-up call, but having the coaches that I had, it forced me to grow my understanding of the game and my knowledge of defense.”

Wohler has been speaking highly of his time with the Badgers. In a March interview, he said the team are in a great place with Luke Fickell.

Hunter Wohler’s projected salary

Wohler is still fighting for a roster spot in their rookie mini camp. But if he does make it to the final team, he could earn around $4 million in four years with them.

OverTheCap.com estimated his probable earnings in a rookie contract using his position in the draft.
