Newcastle United have two fresh injury concerns heading into games against Arsenal and Everton.
Newcastle United face being without another two players for the remaining two games of the season.
The Magpies have taken a gigantic step towards sealing Champions League qualification following Sunday’s 2-0 win over direct rivals Chelsea.
Sandro Tonali opened the scoring after just two minutes at St James’ Park before the Blues were reduced to 10 men after Nicolas Jackson was sent off for an elbow on Sven Botman. Despite being a man down, the visitors threatened an equaliser before Bruno Guimaraes wrapped up the victory in stoppage time.
Eddie Howe’s side now know a win against either Arsenal or Everton will seal a Champions League spot for a second time in three seasons.
Newcastle United pair at risk of missing the rest of the season
The Magpies head to the Emirates next Sunday with the possibility of being both Kieran Trippier and Joe Willock. The pair started at Brighton & Hove Albion but dropped out of the line-up versus Chelsea due to injury.
Trippier has a calf injury while Willock has a knee issue. Both injuries are believed to be minor but with only a fortnight of the season remaining, they run the risk of not featuring.
Howe said: “We don’t think they’re big injuries, but there’s such a short amount of time left now before the end of the season.
“We’d love to get them back fit, and able to play a part, but at this moment in time, I’ve not really got any idea whether or not that’s possible.”
Newcastle United’s squad stretched
Newcastle are already expected to be without Joelinton for the rest of the season, while Lewis Hall and Matt Targett have already been ruled out.
By naming Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon in his starting XI in place of the two absentees, Howe switched from his usual 4-3-3 formation to a 3-5-3 system.

Howe added: “I think we’re missing some big players. Whenever you do that, there’s a gap. I thought the lads that came in did really well, they filled that gap superbly, and from my perspective, that’s what you’re looking for.
“You want people to step up and show their qualities, and when you’re bringing in people like Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon, they’re top-class players. I thought they both played well, but below that, of course we’re now slightly stretched.
“We’ll see if we can get a couple of players back. Of course, and I’ve made no attempt to hide form this fact, the summer window will be a big window for us.”
