Arsenal came from two goals down to draw with Liverpool in an entertaining Anfield encounter on Sunday.
The Reds, who have already wrapped up the Premier League title, made a brilliant start to the home game as they scored twice within the opening 21 minutes.
Cody Gakpo struck the first blow for the hosts, heading home Andy Robertson’s cross for his 11th goal of the season.
Liverpool doubled their advantage a minute later when Dominik Szoboszlai set up Luis Diaz to slide into an unguarded net.
Arne Slot’s men were in complete control at half-time, but Arsenal made a brilliant comeback in the second-half.
Gabriel Martinelli pulled one back in the 47th minute when he headed in a cross from Leandro Trossard.
Mikel Merino popped up with the leveller after 70 minutes, heading in after Alisson tipped a shot from Martin Odegaard on to the crossbar.
Merino was then sent off for a second yellow card as he first fouled Darwin Nunez and then Szoboszlai in quick succession.
Liverpool looked to have won the contest when Robertson put the ball into the net in stoppage-time, but the goal was ruled out due to Ibrahima Konate’s foul on Myles Lewis-Skelly in the build-up.
The result means Arsenal are six points ahead of fifth-placed Aston Villa with two matches remaining in the season.
It has been another disappointing campaign for the Gunners, who failed to win any domestic or European trophy in 2024-25.
Their supporters will now be looking for some encouraging transfer news as the club aims to bolster their ranks in the summer transfer window.
Signing a striker will be a top priority for Mikel Arteta and they have already been linked with Newcastle United star Alexander Isak and Sporting Libson’s Viktor Gyokeres.
But both are elite centre-forwards and so they would have to splash a huge transfer fee to secure a deal for them.
