Enzo Maresca has commented on a moment between him and the Newcastle United assistant manager that went unnoticed by many.
The game was full of drama and nerves, but the Magpies ultimately got the three points to move up to third in the Premier League table.
Newcastle United players knew the importance of the Chelsea game, and the fans did too. St James’ Park was electric from kick-off and they became even louder when Sandro Tonali scored after less than two minutes.
Newcastle’s win against Chelsea established a four-point gap to seventh in the league and puts them within a win of qualifying for the Champions League for a second time in three seasons.
Eddie Howe thanked the Newcastle fans for their support, admitting they were a big part of their success on Sunday.
While all the attention has been on the win, Maresca was caught up in an unseen moment with Newcastle’s assistant manager Jason Tindall, which he had to address in his post-match press conference.

Maresca is under pressure to deliver at Chelsea, especially after how much the Blues have spent since Todd Boehly took ownership of the club in 2022.
The Italian was dealt a major setback in the first half when Nicolas Jackson was sent off for elbowing defender Sven Botman. Maresca believed the St James’ Park crowd helped the referee’s decision, but replays showed that Jackson could have no complaints.

However, there was a moment at full-time which saw Maresca snub Tindall’s offer for a handshake. At the end of the game, Maresca can be seen shaking Howe’s hand before immediately going onto the pitch.
Tindall’s arm can be seen in the corner of the shot, but his hand was left unshaken.
When asked about why he snubbed Tindall’s hand, Maresca said: “I shook Eddie Howe’s hand. I think this is enough.”

Tindall has become accustomed to controversy on the touchline since joining the Magpies in 2021.
Earlier this season, Tindall argued with Ruud van Nistelrooy during Newcastle’s 4-0 win against Leicester
Tindall then sparked a 15-man brawl with Aston Villa players following a heated argument with Unai Emery.
Now, another incident has occurred during the Chelsea game, although it was not caught on camera.
Reports after the game have stated that Tindall argued with Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella on the sidelines.
Howe was then seen talking to the Spaniard Cucurella during a break in play, with the suggestion that it was to do with Tindall.
When asked about the incident, Maresca told the press: “I don’t know, this is a question for Marc.”
