Flick Reaches FC Barcelona Agreement, Reports Mundo Deportivo

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has agreed to stay at the club until mid-2027 according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources.

The German took over the reins from fired club legend Xavi Hernandez, and initially signed on a two-year deal until June 30, 2026.

To say that the ex-Bayern Munich manager has proven a success in his first term would be an understatement.

Masterminding two final wins over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey in 2025, Flick has his young team on the brink of sealing a domestic treble thanks to Sunday’s dramatic 4-3 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Had Barca been able to hang on for a few minutes more at the San Siro midweek, he might have also taken the Catalans to a first Champions League final since 2015 when a Luis Enrique-led outfit starring Lionel Messi beat Juventus in Berlin.

Barca led 6-5 for the first time in the two legged last four tie against Inter Milan on Tuesday, but a 93rd minute equalizer from Francesco Acerbi plus a 99th minute winner converted by Davide Frattesi meant a 4-3 win on the night for Simeone Inzaghi’s more experienced side and a 7-6 win overall to set up a Munich showdown with Luis Enrique’s PSG for club football’s most coveted piece of silverware.

In any event, Flick’s work in Catalonia thus far is to be admired, and it’s no surprise that the likes of President Joan Laporta and Sporting Director Deco want his reign to continue.

Flick agrees to extend FC Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo, Flick has already agreed to stay on for at least another two seasons.

He did so at a post-Clasico meeting held in Barcelona’s famous Botafumeiro seafood restaurant where Flick, Laporta and agent Pini Zahavi not only celebrated the landmark victory but also sealed the coach’s future until June 30, 2027.

This news has also been reported by SPORT, which, like MD, says the development will be made official once Barca has guaranteed its La Liga title.

As mentioned, FC Barcelona can do this by winning at Espanyol, which it did in 2023 to clinch the La Liga title in 2023 on Xavi’s watch.
