Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is a player who is likely to be talked about a lot both in the build-up and during the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old is currently on loan with fellow Premier League side Chelsea. But he has failed to make a big impact at Stamford Bridge, so much so that there is talk of the Blues paying a compensation fee to United for the move not to become permanent in the summer.
If that happens, Sancho will return to Old Trafford. However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, the winger appears to have no future at the club with United planning on cashing in on Sancho as they look to raise funds for Ruben Amorim to add to his squad over the summer transfer window.
So far this season, Sancho has scored three times and provided five assists in 30 Premier League appearances for Chelsea. He was named on the bench and brought onto the pitch for the last 15 minutes of Sunday’s 2-0 loss against Newcastle United.
Amid the uncertainty over his future, we’ve taken a look at the latest reports around the winger.
Chelsea decision
Chelsea have decided to trigger a clause in the loan agreement with United that will see Sancho return to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Mirror reports that the Blues have confirmed that they will pay a £5 million fee to United in the summer which will see the obligation to buy agreement in the loan deal disappear.
Transfer lifeline
Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are keen on signing Sancho this summer, with United reportedly ready to drop their asking price for a deal to be completed.
The Mirror claims that United are willing to do business for a fee of around £20 million. However, a stumbling block to a move to the German side is the player’s reported £250,000-a-week wages.
Dortmund are also said to be interested in taking the player back to the club for a third time, However, Leverkusen’s stronger financial position makes them a more likely destination.
Dortmund decision
It has been reported in Germany that Borussia Dortmund have made the decision not to enter the race to sign Sancho in the summer. Sport Bild report that they are instead showing an interest in Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham who has previously been linked with a move to United.
What Enzo Maresca has said
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has given nothing away on the future of Sancho at Stamford Bridge, but has said that he could have done ‘better’ this season.
Last month, he said: “I’m completely focused about nine games, two months to go, I’m completely focused about that. Then what happens in summer, we’ll see.
“The Jadon situation doesn’t change. In terms of numbers, he could do better, no doubt. It is not just about Jadon but we have more players in the same situation.”
