Three more former Penn State players have popped up in NFL rookie mini camps over the past week, meaning all 12 participants at this year’s pro day have landing spots at the next level.
Defensive end Amin Vanover, defensive tackle Dvon J-Thomas and kicker Alex Felkins — all undrafted and unsigned — earned invites to mini camps on a tryout basis.
Vanover (listed as a linebacker) joined the Miami Dolphins, who invited 20 players to camp. He submitted a waiver for an extra year of NCAA eligibility at the conclusion of the 2024 season but had it denied. The edge rusher was a key rotator down the stretch for Penn State, recording 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble during the year.
J-Thomas, one of Penn State’s most vocal leaders and a stalwart on the defensive interior, joined camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers among 34 tryout players. He finished 2024 with 35 tackles and a half of a sack while playing a huge number of snaps, due to a thin defensive line depth chart.
Finally, Felkins joined the Buffalo Bills with 26 other tryout invitees. He last kicked for the Nittany Lions in 2023, earning All-Big Ten honors after making 19 of 24 field goal attempts. The former Columbia transfer took part in a second pro day hoping for an opportunity like the one he received with the Bills.
