PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Super Bowl champion Eagles will begin the long road to building their dynasty in 2025 at home in south Philadelphia, as they'll host their division rival Dallas Cowboys to open up the year, the NFL announced Monday.
The matchup will not just open up the Birds season, but it will be the first game of the entire NFL season. It's slated for 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The nationally televised game will be on NBC and will stream on Peacock.
The remainder of the Birds schedule will be released Wednesday night. The league has teased that it will be a challenging one:
"(The Eagles) have 11 games versus 2024 playoff teams and will meet every team they defeated in the playoffs at least once in 2025," the league said in its announcement.
While the Eagles already knew they'd see Washington, this tidbit means they know they'll face the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, and AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs during the regular season at some point.
While the schedule will be tough, the good news is the Birds will likely have at least an extra two days of rest heading into week two, assuming their second game is indeed on Sunday.
While the Cowboys went 7-10 in 2024, finishing a whopping 7 games behind the division winning, 14-3 Eagles, they have a long and storied history with Philly and rivalry games generate tremendous competition annually, regardless of that particular year's squad. The Cowboys have made a series of moves this offseason that could position them as playoff contenders once again in 2025, adding further intrigue to the season opening matchup.
