Chelsea in talks to re-enter Nigerian striker race

Chelsea were keen to sign one Nigerian striker last summer. But, the deal ended in failure due to the player’s wage demands. The Blues have still not given up on him and have held talks to sign him.

The star in question here is Victor Osimhen of Napoli. He is currently at Galatasaray on loan. He is 26 years old and has been one of the best strikers in the world in recent seasons. Osimhen has scored 33 goals and picked 8 assists in 38 games for Turkish giants this term.

However, Galatasaray was not the preferred target of the Nigerian superstar. He was wanted by Chelsea last summer and the player was also open for the move. But, he wanted a salary of around €12 million per year. This proved to be a stumbling block in the pursuit.

Chelsea were unable to offer the demanded wages. They tried to convince Osimhen until last day to lower hig wages. But, the Nigerian was not ready which resulted in failure of deal. But, the Blues have still not given up on him.

Chelsea to re-enter the race for Osimhen

According to Football Transfers, the Blues are willing to sign Osimhen this summer. The player is also ready for the move but will still demand a hefty salary. As a result, the Blues are set to hold talks with his representatives in order to convince him to lower his demands.

The report further adds that the Blues are preparing a suitable offer for Osimhen. They will try to maintain a balance between their wage framework and incentives. In case the Nigerian is still not convinced, they will move-on from him.

Chelsea do have many other alternative options in the transfer market. They hold strong interest in Liam Delap who will cost £30 million. Then there is Benjamin Sesko who will cost around €80 million. Lastly, there is Gyokeres who will cost the most of all as he has €100 million release clause.
