Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has been knocked off top spot in the race to win this season’s Pichichi award after missing El Clasico.
The striker was fit for the game but didn’t feature at Montjuic as [Barcelona ran out 4-3 winners against Real Madrid](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/5/12/24428463/hansi-flick-agrees-new-barcelona-contract-until-2027-deal-set-to-be-announced).
Sunday’s match saw Kylian Mbappe hit a hat-trick which means he is now the top scorer in La Liga with 27 goals from 31 games.
Lewandowski is just two behind on 25 but faces a real battle to overhaul the France star in the final weeks of the season and win the [Pichichi award for the second time](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/barcelona-la-liga/2023/6/5/23748815/robert-lewandowski-wins-pichichi-award-in-his-debut-season-with-barcelona).
Mbappe and Real Madrid are back in La Liga action on Wednesday against Real Mallorca and then sign off with games against Sevilla and Real Sociedad.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s final three games of the campaign are against Espanyol, Villarreal and Athletic Club.
It seems likely that Lewandowski will start on Thursday as Barca go for the title (unless Real Madrid slip up on Wednesday) and he’ll be eager to add to his tally.
Lewandowski is also still on 99 goals for Barcelona, meaning his next goal will bring up a century and potentially also deliver the title for Barcelona.
