Rangers could be edging closer to making a full-time managerial appointment at Ibrox.
The situation at Rangers has been uncertain for some time, with Barry Ferguson holding the title of interim boss until the end of the season.
However, with the 49ers looking to complete a takeover in Glasgow, a decision about which direction the Ibrox club is going to move in has to be decided upon.
Davide Ancelotti has now emerged as one of the candidates under consideration for the vacancy, as he prepares to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.
However, the Italian isn’t the only name still in the running.

49ers keeping options open at Ibrox
The season may be coming to an end, but that will not speed up the completion of the takeover at Ibrox.
It has been reported that the American investors could be in place by mid-June, and a managerial appointment could be in place for their arrival.
Ancelotti is under “serious” consideration to become the new permanent boss at Ibrox, with an offer said to have already been made to gain his services.
However, the Italian is not the only man on the 49ers’ mind and according to the Daily Record (13 May), while contact has been made, talks are still in an early stage.
The report states that other names are still on the radar at Ibrox and there is no leading candidate for the role yet, with an appointment at Rangers not expected to be imminent.
Nevertheless, Ancelotti is understood to be heavily in the mix and Francesco Mauri would be set to follow the 35-year-old from Real Madrid to be his assistant.

49ers have to be ready to nail down Rangers appointment
Naturally, the 49ers seem keen to take their time when it comes to the appointment of a new boss at Ibrox, and rightly so; it’s a decision they need to get right.
While a decision isn’t expected to be imminent, with talks open with Ancelotti, the American investors need to be prepared to strike while the iron’s hot if conversations move in the right direction.
Ancelotti ticks plenty of boxes for Rangers. The Italian is young, has experience working at the highest level and in the realms of big budgets.

However, this would be his opportunity to step into his own role, rather than following his father to Brazil, a step he seemingly could be ready for.
Until a deal is nailed down, there is no need for the 49ers to pigeonhole themselves with any prospective boss.
Having said that, with the season coming to a close, there is increasing uncertainty at Ibrox about what’s to come, and the sooner an appointment is made, the better.
