Report: Real Madrid could scupper £40m Leeds United transfer this summer after development

Leeds United could yet smash their transfer record this summer as Daniel Farke and the 49ers look towards an expensive summer transfer window.

Leeds United could be fearing the worst ahead of their Premier League return after watching the last six promoted teams all come crashing down.

Last season, Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton were all promoted but all have since been relegated with a whimper, despite all three spending their share of money.

Though it doesn’t look set to be a patch on what Leeds United will spend this summer. It’s been reported that Leeds United are ready to spend £100million on new players this summer in a bid to finally keep themselves in the Premier League.

Manager Daniel Farke could yet spend much of that £100million on one player with some reports of potential big money signings at Elland Road, which could yet break the club’s transfer record.

In January 2023 Leeds United signed Georginio Rutter in a £35.5million deal to set the club transfer record.

Leeds United’s Caoimhin Kelleher hopes could be scuppered by Real Madrid

Caoimhin Kelleher is on the Whites’ transfer radar as Farke looks for a new no.1 to replace Illan Meslier. And it was recently revealed to Leeds United News that Leeds United have made contact with Liverpool over Kelleher who the Reds could command up to £40million for this summer.

But an emerging report from The Sun has revealed that Brighton are now looking at the Irishman, because Real Madrid have added Seagulls’ no.1 Bart Verbruggen to their summer shortlist as they themselves look for a long-term heir to Thibaut Courtois.

Republic of Ireland boss sends message to Caoimhin Kelleher amid Leeds United links

The 26-year-old Kelleher looks nailed on to leave this summer. He’s seemingly been pushing for a move ahead of the summer and there’s more and more clubs joining the race, and Brighton will surely be a very attractive proposal.

Not only because they’re now an established Premier League club but because Verbruggen leaving would open up that no.1 spot for someone like Kelleher to come in and play regularly.

That’s exactly what Kelleher needs and wants from his next move. Speaking recently, Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson spoke about Kelleher’s future, saying: “I just want Caoimhin to go to a club where he will play. He has been playing at the highest level.

“Champions League, Premier League, done really well. I just want him to be happy and play regularly. I don’t mind where he goes so long as he is playing on a regular basis, he is too good not to be playing.’’

Both Brighton and Leeds could offer Kelleher regular game time. In that case then it could come down to who can offer the shot-stopper the best deal.
