Report: 49ers now in talks to appoint new Rangers manager they initially wanted for the Leeds United job

It is going to be a busy summer for The 49ers. Not only are they tasked with overseeing a crucial window for Leeds United, but they are closing in on a takeover at Rangers.

Paraag Marathe was present for the final couple of games of the season and then on top of the bus during Leeds United’s parade. Then, he declared that Daniel Farke would stay as Leeds United gaffer.

With promotion, Leeds will be incredibly busy this summer – bringing in an influx of new signings and making room for those by letting others go. It is arguably one of Leeds most-important windows ever.

But at the same time, Marathe and The 49ers are working hard to complete a takeover of Rangers. A deal to buy Rangers is expected to go through mid-June – and The 49ers need to appoint a new manager.

49ers hold talks with manager initially eyed for Leeds United job

Before Marathe confirmed Farke would remain in the Leeds hotseat, The Guardian reported Leeds had approached Carlo Ancelotti’s son and assistant Davide who is keen to embark on his own career.

Ancelotti has worked as his Father’s assistant at Bayern Munich, Everton, Napoli and Real Madrid, now. The Italian however has been left with a decision to make, with father Carlo taking the Brazil job.

A report from The Daily Record now says that after The 49ers had asked Davide about the Leeds job, Ancelotti and likely Gretar Steinsson are in talks about him becoming the next manager at Ibrox.

Ancelotti was one of three managers approached by The 49ers

Clearly, The 49ers have a contingency list of managers they will approach if they need to replace Farke. The report also named former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, as well as Roger Schmidt.

There might be more to it than meets the eye, as well. Richard Keys claims Marathe has only given Farke his word because Jose Mourinho turned down the role, while talks have been held with Bo Henriksen.

It suggests that perhaps, Marathe was not so desperate to keep Farke in the Leeds dugout after all and that, the 49ers chief did consider replacing him. It seems though, that Ancelotti is now off to Rangers.
