Victor Osimhen Chelsea
Chelsea Stamford Bridge
Chelsea are very eager to sign Victor Osimhen but the Nigerian international’s huge wage demand is turning out to be a major problem for the Blues, as per an exclusive report by Football Transfers.
Osimhen is the number one priority for the London side but the striker is demanding a salary package of €12 million per year. Chelsea are reluctant to pay such high wages to the 26-year-old and as per the report, the club will hold concrete talks to solve this problem.
It seems like his wage demand is the only thing that is stopping this transfer and if the two parties can agree on a structured deal that includes bonus payments, Victor Osimhen will be a Chelsea player in no time.
Should Chelsea pay €12M to Victor Osimhen?
Victor Osimhen is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in European football and he’s continued his fine form this season as well. Despite leaving Napoli on a loan deal, the Nigerian international has maintained his scoring record, netting 24 goals in 28 league games for Galatasaray.
There’s no denying that Victor Osimhen is someone who can make an instant impact next season but it will be very hard for Chelsea to pay €12 million per year. Reece James is their current highest earner at around €15 million and Osimhen can surely command more than the right-back.
However, the Blues have a massive squad which has led to a very inflated wage bill.
Chelsea are the fourth-highest spender in terms of wages in the Premier League and they can only afford Victor Osimhen if they offload all the deadwood in the summer.
On paper, it makes perfect sense for Chelsea to go out and pay €12 million per year to someone who can guarantee them 25-30 goals in a campaign but financially it will be very hard for the Blues to pull this one off.
Do Chelsea have alternative targets?
Right now, Victor Osimhen is their main focus but if they fail to land the Napoli man, Chelsea will not waste time.
The London side are reportedly looking at Ollie Watkins and Liam Delap as part of Plan B plus they have also been linked with Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko in recent months. Like Osimhen, all these centre-forwards can also make a positive impact at Stamford Bridge but these players have other suitors as well which means Chelsea would have to start from scratch.
