Arsenal have submitted a contract offer of around £300,000-a-week to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports in Portugal.
The Gunners are in the market to bring in a new striker after going another season without a trophy. Mikel Arteta's side are defensively solid, but they are often left down in the final third, especially with the likes of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus currently out injured.
A key issue for Arsenal is not having a natural striker option. Havertz has spent a large portion of his career as a midfielder or a number 10, while Jesus has often played across the front three. The north London club allowed Eddie Nketiah to depart last summer, leaving them short of options through the middle.

According to a report from A Bola (via Sport Witness), Arsenal have offered a contract to Sporting CP striker Gyokeres, which works out at around £300,000-a-week before tax. The report claims Gyokeres will earn £7m after tax, and with the current rates of 45% for someone in that bracket, he will be taking home around £135k-a-week after tax.
Gyokeres, praised as ‘the best striker in the world’, could be on his way back to England this summer. A Bola add that although Arsenal are yet to make an offer to Sporting, the Gunners are preparing a bid of around £63m.

The Swedish international has enjoyed a sensational time with Sporting since his move to Portugal, and it's no surprise that clubs are looking to prise him away. The former Coventry City man could be exactly what Arteta needs - a natural centre-forward who is going to convert chances into goals.
Whether Gyokeres can translate his goalscoring form into the Premier League remains to be seen, but he's been prolific, not only in Portugal but in the Champions League too.
