Arsenal host Newcastle United in their final home match of the Premier League season on Sunday.
The Gunners had hoped to challenge to be champions this term but are now set to finish as runners-up for the third consecutive season, with Liverpool having cruised to the title.
Mikel Arteta’s side were also eliminated from the Champions League at the semi-final stage, with French champions Paris Saint-Germain knocking the North London outfit out.
This summer, those in charge of the club will likely want to bolster Arteta’s squad.
With that in mind, it appears that Arsenal have identified a prolific striker as one of their top transfer targets ahead of this summer’s window.
According to Football Insider, the Gunners have made Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres their number one target as they look to bolster Arteta’s attacking options.

The 26-year-old joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and has since scored 95 goals in 100 games for the Portuguese side across all competitions, including 52 goals in 50 games this term.
It is claimed that Manchester United are also interested in the Swedish striker, however the Gunners may hold the upper hand in the race to land the player as they are likely to be able to offer Champions League football next term; something that the Red Devils will only be able to do if they win the Europa League.
Gyokeres is under contract in the Portuguese capital until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but he appears increasingly likely to depart his current club this summer and the Premier League may be his most likely destination.
The report claims that the Sweden international is likely to cost around £60 million this summer, a fee that Arsenal and Manchester United could both comfortably afford.
