Ibrox News Speaking to Derek Ferguson

Rangers fans continue to await confirmation of the Ibrox takeover going through as a disappointing campaign nears its conclusion.

The 49ers Enterprises, led by Paraag Marathe, and Andrew Cavenagh were recently in attendance at Ibrox and everything points to a takeover going through in the coming days or weeks.

There has also been talk of a new manager being appointed swiftly at Rangers, whether that is before the new investors are in place or shortly beforehand.

Barry Ferguson will see out the season at the very least, but events away from Ibrox suggest that Marathe and Co. will arrive full of ambition.

Leeds United and Daniel Farke developments ‘harsh’

49ers already have a presence in British football, of course, as they also have their feet under the desk at Leeds United.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

There were plenty of rumours recently that manager Daniel Farke would be sacked by the 49ers, despite guiding Leeds back to the Premier League.

That talk has since been buried by Marathe, but it has not stopped murmurings that a bigger-name manager is already being lined up ready to come on board.

Barry Ferguson’s record as Rangers manager

In the view of Rangers-man pundit Derek Ferguson – the brother of current boss Barry – to even suggest Farke is at risk of being sacked is harsh, but it is the type of mentality the Gers could benefit from.

“From the outside looking in it seems incredibly harsh – he’s taken them up, and that was his only remit,” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News .

“Then again, is that the mentality that’s needed? If it is, it’s not a bad thing and is something Rangers could do with.

“Our whole mentality needs to change. It can’t just be jobs for the boys as it has been for the past 10 years. People need to be challenged to step up.

“So it does seem harsh, but that mentality would certainly help Rangers.”

Nobody knows who will be in charge of Rangers for the start of the 2025-26 season

Barry Ferguson one of many in frame for Rangers job

A number of names have been put forward for the Rangers manager’s job, including fanciful options such as Jose Mourinho.

However, the shortlist does now seem to have been whittled down to a handful of names, with Barry Ferguson among those still under consideration.

The 49ers are clearly not ready to mess around when it comes to bringing success to Rangers, and they therefore know how important this first appointment is for both the short and the long-term.
