15 Goal Midfielder‘Among The First Names’That Chelsea Will Target This Summer But They Face Fight With City

AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is a top target for Chelsea, according to reports in the Italian media.

Manchester City have been heavily linked with the Netherlands international in recent days but Tuttomercatoweb claim he is also “among the first names” that Enzo Maresca’s side will pursue this summer.

Reijnders has been in excellent form this season, despite the fact that Milan have struggled to get above midtable.

The 26-year-old has scored 15 goals for the Rossoneri in 51 appearances across all competitions.

Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the midfielder

It was reported back in March that the Blues had registered an interest in Reijnders but he was close to signing a contract extension with Milan at the time.

Even so, Tuttomercatoweb say that hasn’t put off the London club from pursuing the Dutchman ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is believed that both Maresca’s team and City are hoping to persuade Reijnders into making the switch to the Premier League.

Milan are expected to demand a sizeable fee for Reijnders

Convincing the player is not the only obstacle in the way of a transfer going ahead. His club are also determined to retain his services, having only tied him down to a new five-year deal a couple of months ago.

The Rossoneri will reportedly only consider bids for Reijnders if they receive an offer which is in excess of their record fee received. That currently stands at £57m, which is the amount that Real Madrid paid for Kaka all the way back in 2009.

Considering Chelsea are not known for paying big sums for players in their mid to late 20s, it would suggest a change in transfer policy if they do table such an offer for the midfielder.
