Railston: Ruben Amorim must sell the Manchester United player he started in successive games

Every dog has its day and Altay Bayindir's came against Arsenal at the Emirates in January.

Bayindir started in the FA Cup third round against Arsenal and delivered a heroic performance, making crucial saves in normal time and saving two penalties in the shootout victory.

The 27-year-old's passing was wayward and he failed to convince with his feet, but Bayindir denied Arsenal with some excellent saves and he was the main reason why United progressed to the next round, despite having 10 men.

There were some shouts for Bayindir to replace Andre Onana in the team on a permanent basis when Onana suffered a wobble against Lyon, but it's often better the devil you know.

The truth is Bayindir is below the level required to fill in for Onana. He has conceded 18 goals in nine starts in all competitions this season and hasn't proven himself as a reliable back-up goalkeeper.

Bayindir was even overlooked by Erik ten Hag in most cup competition fixtures, a decision which seemed a tad strange and extreme, but that has begun to make more sense this season.

The Turkish international was calamitous against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup in December. He had a night to forget and made mistakes, conceding four goals in London.

Amorim bravely handed another chance to Bayindir against Arsenal in the FA Cup. Bayindir had already been responsible for United crashing out of a cup competition, so Amorim rolled the dice with his team selection, but at least he was able to deliver on the other side of North London.

Since then, Bayindir has started against Rangers, FCSB, Newcastle, Brentford and West Ham, and there's been enough evidence to suggest he should be let go in the summer transfer window.

There has already been some chatter about Bayindir's future and transfer links with a return to Turkey. It would make sense for both parties for him to leave Manchester this summer.

Bayindir isn't good enough to be No.2.

Bayindir was at fault at St. James' Park and shaky at the Gtech Stadium. He is not good enough to put pressure on Onana's first-choice status and that's what all good number two goalkeepers should do at a minimum.

Amorim's decision to start Bayindir against West Ham on Sunday and give Onana a rest from the squad wasn't logical, and it meant Bayindir started two successive Premier League games.

Something has gone massively wrong if Bayindir starts consecutive Premier League games for United again next season. He is known to be a positive influence at Carrington and approachable for supporters, but he is judged on the pitch and his performances haven't been up to scratch.

Tom Heaton is the third choice in the goalkeeper unit and he's been underused during his second stint at United. It's been a surprise that he hasn't been given a chance over Bayindir.

Regardless of whether Heaton signs a contract extension, a new goalkeeper is required in the summer and Bayindir should be shipped out, hopefully for a profit on the £4.3million fee he commanded two years ago.

Bayindir joined United having been a key player for Fenerbahce as they won the Turkish Cup and finished second in the Super Lig, so his reputation is still healthy back in his homeland.

United should be able to sell Bayindir to a Turkish side and sign a more capable number two goalkeeper, someone who can push Onana and provide competition for his starting role in the team.

Onana has lacked genuine competition in the last few years because Bayindir isn't a threat.
