Pittsburgh Steelers could lose out on potential wide receiver target

Potential Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver target Gabe Davis is visiting the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple reports.

This is the first known visit for Davis since he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Davis was released with a ‘failed physical’ designation when he was cut. He had season-ending meniscus surgery last year.

In just ten games in 2024, Davis caught 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. That was enough for the Jaguars to cut him just one year into a three-year, $39 million deal.

His 2023 was far better, amassing 746 yards in 17 games on 46 receptions. His career year came in 2022 when Davis posted 836 yards and seven touchdowns on 48 receptions.

He torched the Steelers as a downfield threat in the Buffalo Bills’ offense before with Josh Allen, including a 98-yard touchdown.

He would fit the Steelers’ downfield, explosive passing attack identity. However, Davis has struggled to stay healthy and his production has steadily fallen off sharply.

Pittsburgh could consider him a fit, though, especially because his blocking attitude fits what they like at the position. A fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of UCF, Davis is free to sign anywhere, and will be unlikely to command an expensive offer.
