Manchester United will have to go head-to-head with Arsenal to sign one of their top transfer targets this summer.
After a hugely underwhelming season, Ineos have plenty of work to do over the summer transfer window to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad for the 2025/26 season.
Amorim is expected to finish in the top six next season, but the Portuguese head coach will need plenty of reinforcements to make that happen.
In the latest 2-0 defeat to West Ham, United were once again toothless in front of goal so it is no surprise that at the top of the summer shopping list is a new centre-forward and No.10.
United have held positive talks with Matheus Cunha, who has scored an impressive 17 goals for Wolves this season. But it seems he could have several offers to consider this summer.

How Man United feel about Arsenal hijacking Matheus Cunha deal
Just days after Cunha starred against United at Old Trafford, rumours of the Wolves star joining the Red Devils ramped up.
Cunha has a £62.5m release clause which United are willing to meet this summer, some reports have even claimed United have reached an agreement for Cunha to join.
It seemed everything was set up for the Brazilian to join United when the window swings open, but the story has since gone quiet and now Arsenal have ramped up interest in Cunha.

However, GiveMeSport report that United remain “confident” about signing Cunha despite Arsenal’s interest, suggesting the Gunners will not be able to hijack the £62.5m deal.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims United could strike a Cunha deal ‘very soon’, ending any speculation about him moving elsewhere.
When Matheus Cunha could join Man United
The Premier League clubs voted this season to slightly change the opening dates of the summer transfer window.
Because of the Club World Cup taking place this summer, the Premier League transfer window will now open on June 1st, which is when fans could see Cunha holding up a United shirt.

United are set to go on their post-season tour of Asia at the end of May, meaning Cunha cannot join in time to join that trip, but he could (and should) be signed in time for the pre-season tour of the United States.
Amorim has given the green light to sign Cunha, with the United head coach a big admirer of the 25-year-old Brazilian.
