Chelsea and other Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City are on high alert after Sunday’s El Clasico in Spain. Rodrygo’s Real Madrid future has come into sharp doubt following his alleged refusal to play the match against Barcelona. The Brazilian winger, as per reports out of Spain, told the coaching staff that he “didn’t feel strong or up to playing.”
This is despite having been given the all-clear to play after recovering from a bout of fever. The winger’s alleged behavior has fueled speculations of his likely departure from the club.
The 24-year-old has endured a reduced role in the team, particularly with the signings of Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham. This appears to have instilled feelings of being on the fringes, and he is not particularly pleased about it.
Rodrygo has not featured for Real Madrid since being replaced at halftime in the Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona on April 26. This campaign, he has watched his performance reduce to only six goals and five assists in 30 league games. It’s a stark difference from his 10 goals and five assists in 34 league games last season.
Could Real Madrid Sell Rodrygo to Chelsea?
Real Madrid seem open to selling Rodrygo if an attractive bid is presented. The club have valued him at approximately €100 million. Chelsea has expressed particular interest, and they could be willing to pay such a massive amount to sign him. Back in April, reports had revealed that the Blues are prepared to offer Rodrygo an important role at Stamford Bridge if he makes the switch.
Other Premier League sides such as Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United are tracking Rodrygo’s situation as well. This will make it quite difficult for the Blues, who may have to deal with a transfer battle to get their man.
The 24-year-old’s deal at Real Madrid expires in 2028, but recent moves indicate that he wants out of the club. He reportedly doesn’t want to play for Real Madrid any longer under the current circumstances. However, with Carlo Ancelotti leaving the Bernabeu and Xabi Alonso taking over as manager, he may be convinced to continue in Spain.
