Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 5/13: Recapping a Busy Day in Berea

OBR Newswire Bloviation Header

Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

The Cleveland Browns were very active yesterday, officially making nine official transactions and few more beyond that. The burst of transactions provided us with many links that provide some background on the players involved, but very little analysis of the transactions. I'm sure most sites were trying to keep up with all the activity.

JOK WON'T PLAY IN 2025: The one thing we know for sure is that standout linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah won't be playing in 2025 for the Cleveland Browns. He was placed on the Reserve/PUP list for the devastating neck injury he suffered against the Ratbirds last year. His future beyond 2025 is hazy and uncertain.

According to Browns CB Greg Newsome, the situation adds a "little bit more fire" to the 2025 season. Newsome and Owusu-Koramoah are the last two players left on the Browns roster from the 2021 draft. Essentially, every Cleveland news or sports site had an article on this, so I don't have space or time to link them all. Here's Fred's recap on the OBR and some more discussion about the situation in the Watercooler.

Of course, the Browns anticipated this situation by selecting LB Carson Schwesinger with the 33rd pick. Schewsinger is a fellow off-ball linebacker who brings some of the same dynamics to the field as JOK does. A full review of Schwesinger's abilities can be found here.

PLUGGING THE GAP AT SAFETY: The Browns worked on filling the roster at safety beyond Grant Delpit by signing veteran safeties Rayshawn Jenkins (previously of the Seahawks) and Damontae Kazee (previously from some horrible place). One possibility, as outlined by Jacob in his story, is that the Browns are convinced Ronnie Hickman is the real deal, and these two safeties are set up to be veteran backups and insurance, a la Rodney McLeod last year. Another name to watch is Donovan McMillon, an undrafted free agent from Pitt. More analysis of the Kazee deal can be found here from Jack Duffin, along with more discussion in the Watercooler.

BROWNS INK THREE UDFA RECEIVERS: A few rookie tryout players will get a real look from the team as they have been signed to deals announced yesterday. Attracting the most attention, after a good rookie minicamp, is Kent State product Luke Floriea, who was particularly effective on punt returns. Floriea gets some attention here not only because he's from Mentor, but also because his was the first announced, as Kent State put out his signing on social media before the Browns announced his signing.

Also signed were Kisean Johnson of Western Kentucky (broken first by Jordan Schultz) and Cade McDonald of Miami-OH. Johnson is a wide-out who has led his teams (Alabama State and Western Kentucky) in receiving each of the last three years. Floriea and McDonald are primarily slot players, per Pete's analysis. There is a discussion of the signings in the Watercooler.

THE DAILY SHEDEUR:

WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
