NFL Makes Historic Announcement Ahead of 2025 Schedule Release

The NFL schedule is set to be officially unveiled on Wednesday night. While fans eagerly await the full slate for their favorite teams, the league has already revealed several marquee matchups throughout the year—including all but one of the International Games.

There will be seven games played overseas in 2025, starting in Week 1 with the Los Angeles Chargers set to play in Brazil. While their opponent hasn’t been officially announced, many believe it will be the Kansas City Chiefs.

As for the remaining six international games, those have been confirmed. One of the most historic announcements involves the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders, who will face off in the first-ever NFL regular-season game held in Madrid, Spain. That matchup is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, with a 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff on NFL Network.

"For the first time ever... an NFL game in Madrid, Spain!" NFL posted on Tuesday.

The NFL has made growing the game internationally a major priority. While it's already the most popular sport in America by a wide margin, commissioner Roger Goodell and the league continue to make expanding the brand globally a key focus—much like they've successfully done in London over the past decade.

This season, in addition to the historic game in Spain, the NFL will host games in Ireland, Brazil (for the second time), Germany, and three in London.

Notably, the Minnesota Vikings will make history as the first team scheduled to play international games on back-to-back weeks in different countries. They'll face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Ireland before traveling to London for a matchup with the Cleveland Browns.
