Aston Villa have two more league fixtures to get through of the current Premier League season
Aston Villa won 1-0 away at AFC Bournemouth last time out in the Premier League. Ollie Watkins scored their winner against the Cherries as they secured a valuable three points. Jacob Ramsey was also sent off but his team managed to hold on for the victory.
Unai Emery’s side remain well in the mix to get Champions League football again. They are 6th in the table with two fixtures left to play. Next up is a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night before they head to Old Trafford to play Manchester United on the final day.
Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa an option for Chelsea
Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa is on Chelsea’s radar this summer, according to transfer expert and former scout Mick Brown. Emery’s men are currently battling the Blues to get into Europe. The top five in England get into the Champions League this year.
Enzo Maresca is an admirer of Konsa ahead of the upcoming transfer window and Brown has delivered his verdict, as per a report by Football Insider: “Chelsea certainly view Ezri Konsa as an option. He has progressed his game further in the last couple of years than I ever thought he would. I still think he makes some mistakes, but he’s done an exceptional job to make himself a regular both for Aston Villa and recently for England.
“He’s made the very best of the assets he has got. Chelsea have got a problem at centre-back and they’re prepared to bring somebody in. That’s going to be one of their priorities in the transfer window. They need a solid option at the back who is going to give them consistent performances, and they’ve been looking at Konsa on a number of occasions. So it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them make a move for him.”
Will Aston Villa keep hold of Ezri Konsa amid Chelsea interest?
Aston Villa won’t want to lose Konsa over the coming months as he is a key player. It would be a blow if he left Villa Park, especially to a rival like Chelsea. He is under contract with his current club until June 2028 meaning he still has three years left to run down so they are not under any pressure to cash in on him anytime soon.
Konsa, 27, has been with Villa since joining them back in 2019 and he has been a great servant. He has made 236 appearances in all competitions to date, 48 of which have come this term, and he has chipped in with nine goals from the back. The London-born man has also made 11 caps for England.
He rose up through the academy ranks at Charlton Athletic and was a regular for the Addicks at various different youth levels. The South London club gave him his first-team debut in 2016 and he went on to make 86 outings for them in the Football League. Brentford then came calling and he spent one year with the Bees in the Championship before Aston Villa swooped in.
