Jack Wilshere is set to leave Norwich City after learning that he won’t be considered for their permanent manager role, according to reports.

John Percy of The Telegraph reported last week that Norwich City had informed interim manager Jack Wilshere that he’s not in contention for the role as their permanent head coach.

Norwich are instead focusing on making an external appointment, with the process ongoing.

Wilshere had initially worked as an assistant to Johannes Hoff Thorup at Norwich, before taking the head coach role on an interim basis after Thorup was dismissed.

Sami Mokbel of the BBC and David Ornstein of The Athletic have since confirmed that Wilshere will leave Norwich as a result of the decision not to give him the permanent role, by mutual agreement with the club.

The former Arsenal player and academy coach will take some time to assess his options, hoping to become a head coach elsewhere.

Norwich City sporting director Ben Knapper has admitted Wilshere is “naturally disappointed” not to have been given the head coach role at the club, and some players had expressed a desire for him to stay.

Full-back Jack Stacey said: “I think I can speak for all of the changing room, I think we’d be delighted for Jack to get it.”

Sadly, it hasn’t turned out that way, and Wilshere is now available to new clubs, with Ornstein reporting that there’s already interest building on that front.
