Seahawks host another veteran cornerback for a visit | Notebook

As the Seahawks get closer to the beginning of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) later this month, their search for a veteran cornerback continues.

They already brought in former Seahawk Shaquill Griffin for a visit, and they are reportedly hosting free agent Rasul Douglas, who has started 80 games in eight NFL seasons and spent last season with Buffalo after he was acquired by the Bills in a midseason trade with Green Bay in 2023.

News of the visit, scheduled for Tuesday, was first reported by The NFL Network.

The Seahawks brought in Griffin the first week of April and he remains unsigned. It’s thought that he is still a possibility for the Seahawks to add as a veteran to compete with Josh Jobe for the third cornerback role behind starters Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen.

Griffin was a third-round pick of the Seahawks in 2017 and played through the 2020 season before moving on, spending last season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Seahawks will learn 2025 schedule this week. Here’s what to know.

The visit by Douglas shows the Seahawks are continuing to explore other options. He reportedly visited the Dolphins earlier this month as they explore possible cornerback additions in case they trade veteran Jalen Ramsey.

A report from The Miami Herald stated that the Dolphins “made an offer” to Douglas “but the sides did not come to terms.”

Douglas, who turns 30 on Aug. 29, was rated third among cornerbacks available in free agency by Pro Football Focus, which stated: “Douglas faced some challenges in 2024, but his knack for making plays on the ball ensures he’ll attract significant interest in 2025. Heading into the 2024 campaign, he had recorded at least seven pass breakups in six of his seven years in the NFL and notched four or more interceptions in each of the past three seasons.”

Douglas had the lowest PFF grade of his career in 2024 at 53.9 after recording a career-best mark of 81 in 2023.

According to Pro Football Reference he allowed a passer rating of 122, a career-high, after allowing a rating of just 38.6 in nine games with the Bills in 2023 following his trade.

That likely helps explain why he has remained unsigned.

But his experience — he won a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles following the 2017 season — and size (6-2, 209) and that he’s seen ample action at right and left corner could make him an ideal fit as a third cornerback.

The Seahawks re-signed Jobe to a one-year deal worth up to $2 million with $300,000 guaranteed after he emerged as the third corner in the second half of last season, taking that role away from Tre Brown, who signed with the 49ers.

They have 2024 fifth-round pick Nehemiah Pritchett set to compete for that spot as well as a few other veteran free-agent signees over the past year such as Tyler Hall, who started six games for the Raiders in the 2022-23 seasons.

The Seahawks’ cornerback situation led many to predict the team would take one in the draft.

They did not as general manager John Schneider said it simply didn’t work out to take one in a draft in which the Seahawks selected nine offensive players in 11 picks.

The Seahawks signed two undrafted free agent cornerbacks — Zy Alexander of LSU and Isas Waxter of Villanova. Alexander received $249,000 guaranteed, among the most they gave to any of their UDFA signees.

The 90-man roster is full, meaning any additions would require another player being waived or released.

The Seahawks are in the second phase of its offseason program which allows for the offense and defense to work separately but not together.

That will change on May 27 with the beginning of OTAs when the team can hold noncontact 11-on-11 drills.

Another draft pick signs

Third-round draft pick Jalen Milroe, a quarterback out of Alabama, has agreed to his rookie contract, according to various reports Tuesday.

He becomes the ninth of the Seahawks’ 11 picks under contract. The only two remaining unsigned are the team’s two second-round picks — safety Nick Emmanwori and tight end Elijah Arroyo.

Milroe, the 92nd overall pick, gets a four-year deal worth up to $6.246 million that includes a $1.195 million signing bonus as well as non-guaranteed yearly salaries of $840,000, $1.005 million, $1.12 million and $1.235 million.

He also gets a total of $868,386 in roster bonuses spread out over the 2026-28 seasons if he is on the roster the third day of training camp each year. Those break down to $119, 731 in 2026, $289,462 in 2027 and $459,193 in 2028.

First-round pick Grey Zabel and seven other draftees signed their deals on Monday.
