Report: Seahawks to meet with veteran free agent cornerback

The Seattle Seahawks are slated to host veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas on a visit agent Tuesday, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Daniel Jeremiah dispels one criticism of Seahawks’ draft

The news comes after a report last week from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Seattle was in discussions with veteran free agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin on a potential reunion.

Douglas, 29, has made 80 starts over an eight-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills. The 6-foot-2, 209-pound corner has 19 interceptions, three pick-sixes and 79 pass breakups in 120 career games since entering the league as a third-round pick by the Eagles in 2017.

Douglas’ best seasons came over a three-year span from 2021 to 2023, when he totaled 14 interceptions and 40 pass breakups in 45 games (36 games with Green Bay and nine with Buffalo).

Last season, Douglas started 15 games for the Bills and totaled five pass breakups, a forced fumble and five tackles for loss.

Douglas ranked 16th out of 116 qualified cornerbacks in Pro Football Focus grading in 2021, 30th out of 118 in 2022 and 11th out of 127 in 2023. Last year, he ranked 102nd out of 116.

The Seahawks have a good cornerback duo in two-time Pro Bowler Devon Witherspoon and one-time Pro Bowler Riq Woolen. However, their depth at the position is relatively thin, and they could use another player to challenge Josh Jobe for the third cornerback spot. There’s also some long-term uncertainty at the position, with Woolen heading into the final year of his rookie contract and Jobe on a one-year deal.

Many expected the Seahawks to address cornerback in the draft, but they didn’t use any of their 11 picks on the position.
