Paul Allen estate, which owns Seahawks, putting NBA's Blazers up for sale

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Paul Allen’s estate announced Tuesday that it has begun the process of selling the Portland Trail Blazers.

How Sonics expansion could be hindered by Trail Blazers going up for sale

The sale of the team is “consistent with Allen’s directive to eventually sell his sports holdings and direct all estate proceeds to philanthropy,” the Trail Blazers said in a statement.

Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, died in 2018 at age 65 from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Allen was also the owner of the Seattle Seahawks and co-owner of the Seattle Sounders. The Seahawks are currently run by Allen’s estate, but won’t be sold as part of Tuesday’s announcement. The estate will also keep its 25% stake in the Sounders.

“This news does not affect the Seattle Seahawks NFL franchise or the estate’s 25% interest in the Seattle Sounders MLS (franchise), and neither is for sale,” the statement said.

Allen bought the Trail Blazers in 1988 and the Seahawks in 1997.

With the Portland Trail Blazers officially being put up for sale… who does this impact more:
