Thomas Morstead has revealed he has been cut by the New York Jets in an unexpected offseason move.
The 39-year-old punter, who won the Super Bowl in his memorable 12-year stint with the New Orleans Saints, broke the news on Tuesday in a video message on Instagram.
Morstead admitted he is 'disappointed by how it went down' after being released at the end of his second season back with the Jets, whom he rejoined in 2023 after a previous stint in 2021.
'Just had a call from the Jets that they're moving on from me,' he said while on the field at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.
'I just wanted to say thank you to all the fans, all the coaches that I worked with over the past few years, all the teammates. It's been awesome, I've had a great experience.
'Disappointed to be moving on and disappointed how it went down, but it's just the way it goes in this business.
'I really appreciate everybody that's been a part of the journey.'
