Barcelona have officially extended the contract of promising left-back Jofre Torrents until 2028, signalling their intent to keep one of La Masia’s brightest talents at the club for the long term.
The 18-year-old has been part of the Barça academy setup since 2017 and continues to impress with his maturity and consistency.
Torrents, who still qualifies for the youth categories for another season, was registered with Barça Atletic for the 2024/25 campaign and went on to play 12 games for the team.
Despite his youth, the club’s coaching staff and technical leaders have been vocal in their praise for the defender’s development and potential, and the faith shown in him with a three-year extension speaks volumes.
Flick considering pre-season inclusion
Such is the confidence in his progress that Barcelona are seriously considering including him in the upcoming pre-season summer tour of Asia, which will feature matches in Japan and Korea, claims a report from Mundo Deportivo.

Manager Hansi Flick has been encouraged to take a close look at Torrents, though a final decision on his inclusion in the pre-season squad has yet to be made. It is clear, however, that the club wants Flick to see the teenager’s potential firsthand.
Torrents has already been handed opportunities to train with the first team under Flick, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.
While still developing under Juliano Belletti at Barça Atlètic, he has racked up 12 La Liga appearances, featured in five UEFA Youth League matches, and played in the Copa del Rey.
The timing of his contract renewal, coming just before the club’s summer preparations, suggests that Barcelona view Torrents as more than just a long-term project.
There is a belief that he could make the step up sooner than expected, especially with Flick’s reputation for trusting young, versatile players.
