Latest Prowler uniform scoop will make Jaguars fans run through a wall

Aside from the NFL Schedule release news, the possibility that the Jacksonville Jaguars will wear the Prowler uniforms as many times in upcoming years is generating a lot of discussion. But as encouraging as the recent news was, it could actually be much better.

Phil Hecken of Uni Watch says that the Jaguars can't make the Prowler their default jerseys in 2025 but will try to make it as soon as possible.

"But Boselli has hinted at what I've been hearing over the past year — that the Jaguars will make the Prowlers their permanent primary uniforms (they'd slide the throwbacks to their primaries, and add a white throwback jersey as the primary road kit)," Hecken said. "Unfortunately for those of us wanting the switch, Boselli basically said that change won't be happening this season."

Just recently, executive vice president of football operations Tony Boselli said that Jacksonville will maximize the times they can wear the throwbacks in 2025, which is four. He also more or less echoed the tidbit Hecken shared, pointing out that they cannot change the uniform full-time because of NFL rules but didn't rule it out.

The Prowlers were the Jags' original jerseys. They stopped wearing them in 2008 and later changed them again in 2013 and 2018. Along the way, they also had the infamous Color Rush alternates.

Of all the uniforms Jacksonville has, the Prowlers are the favorites, which is why they brougth them back in 2024. They teased their return early in the year and offically announced in July that they would be wearing in Week 5, when former head coach Tom Coughlin got inducted into the Pride of the Jaguar.

The Jaguars are getting the fans' feedback about the Prowlers

There may be people who like the current uniforms. Heck, the Color Rush alternates surely have a few fans. That said, the Prowler is the most iconic version in team history, and it's understandable. Apart from the classic vibes, it's associated with the glory days of the franchise when players such as Mark Brunell, Toni Boselli, Keenan McCardell, Jimmy Smith, and Fred Taylor were around.

And it's a good thing that, knowing how much the throwbacks meant, Boselli is making a strong push to wear them as much as possible. He was part of those Jacksonville teams that reached the AFC Championship twice in the late 1900s, so he knows what they represent.

Going back to Hecken's scoop, and this is just a conjecture, the renovations to EverBank Stadium will have been finished in 2028. That would be the perfect time to announce that the team is making the switch to the Prowlers, especially if the Jaguars are doing well under head coach Liam Coen.

The bottom line is that fans wanted the Prowlers, and they're getting them. Maybe not full-time right now, but after weaking them twice in 2025, it's great to hear that they'll try to do it four times next season.
