Packers to host Lions in first regular-season opener in Green Bay since 2018

GREEN BAY, Wis. — After being Karl Brooks' blocked field goal away from going winless in the division a season ago, the Green Bay Packers will face a monstrous test right out of the gate to open the 2025 campaign.

According to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, the Packers will host the Detroit Lions in the regular-season opener at Lambeau Field. The game will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 4.25 p.m. ET on FOX.

This will mark the first time that the Packers have opened the regular season at home with Matt LaFleur as their head coach. Since 2019, the Packers have opened on the road twice against the Chicago Bears, twice against the Minnesota Vikings, the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles. Their bout against the Saints was scheduled to take place in New Orleans, however, plans changed following Hurricane Ida's impact on the area. The game was instead played in Jacksonville, Florida. The Packers played the Eagles in São Paulo last year as the first two teams to ever play internationally in Brazil.

The Packers will open against the Lions for the first time since 2005–a 17-3 loss that essentially foreshadowed a dismal, four-win season—and against a divisional opponent for the 16th time since 1992.

The Lions swept the Packers last season under the guidance of head coach Dan Campbell, winning the first matchup in Green Bay by two scores and the second by a field goal. Campbell will be without prized offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, who stayed within the NFC North and was hired by the Bears earlier this year.
