Ademola Lookman Transfer Updates
Chelsea are amongst the Premier League teams interested in Ademola Lookman. The Atalanta forward is expected to depart Serie A this summer. The 27-year-old is looking for a career-defining huge transfer back to the English top division.
Barcelona have reportedly already been in touch with his agents. However, it’s unlikely that he will be in action at Camp Nou next season considering their financial standing. Meanwhile, the €60–€65 million asking price seems to have turned Juventus off. The top teams in the Premier League are the typical suspects trying to sign the desired Nigerian international. Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea are all rumoured to be interested in him.
Arsenal looked poised to clinch the Premier League trophy if Manchester City were to regress before the season started. But the Gunners have constantly fallen short due to lack of depth in their attacking areas. Ademola Lookman looks like a perfect match for the North London giants to mount a successful title charge.
However, it’s their London rivals who have emerged as the frontrunners of late for the talented winger. Chelsea have felt let down by their wingers in terms of goal involvement statistics. Looking at Ademola Lookman’s numbers, the Nigerian winger has 25 goal contributions alongside impressive in-game performances. He has been a vital component of Atalanta’s upward trajectory in recent years. They are favourites to grab the Champions League spot for the second straight season.
Chelsea Set Their Sights On Ademola Lookman
Ademola Lookman has shown that he does not get fazed by the spotlight. He has constantly turned up for Atalanta in the biggest of matches. Lookman scored a sensational hattrick in the Europa League final, leading Atalanta to their first European title in their history. He has shown enough to justify his world-class potential and Chelsea are ready to hedge their bets on it.
Chelsea football club have recently been accused of spending recklessly in the transfer market. The Blues were expected to comfortably secure their place in the Champions League this season. The club faced these expectations due to their spending over a billion pounds since the new ownership takeover.
However, this season has arguably turned out to be below-par for the Blues. They got knocked out of both the domestic cup competitions pretty early. Meanwhile, Chelsea are still not guaranteed Champions League football next season.
Chelsea lack the goal-scoring threats in their wing positions. More often than not, Cole Palmer is expected to bail them out with a piece of magic. However, with his form taking a dip, Chelsea have failed to extract goals from their wider players.
Ademola Lookman is arguably in the prime stage of his footballing career. He has got the perfect blend of experience and peak fitness levels. Chelsea are craving a goal-scoring winger and there are not many better than Lookman in Europe at this moment. This transfer makes perfect sense from Chelsea’s perspective if they are able to meet the required financial demands.
Authors Opinion
Chelsea have undoubtedly got talent in their attacking options. The problem they have been encountering is lack of goal instinct. Sancho, Madueke and Neto all have been good in build up play but have struggled to get at the end of chances consistently.
With Mudryk‘s ban still upheld, the manager Maresca has been cut short of options from bench.
However, some blame also goes to Maresca for consistently playing Nkunku out of position.
Nico Jackson is still raw and Chelsea hope he can evolve into a lethal striker. But till then, all the burden has seemingly fallen on Cole Palmer’s shoulders. It is evident that teams have mapped out a method to prevent Palmer from getting into goal scoring positions.
While the attention from opposition has been on Palmer, other attackers have failed to take it’s advantage. Ademola Lookman would definitely add a new dimension to Chelsea’s attack. He has the ability to both create chances and finish them. The electric winger has the ability to grab matches by the scruff of the neck. He has displayed this repeatedly in his Serie A tenure.
Lookman would also be motivated to make up for his last stint in premier league with Everton. This would surely be a shrewd piece of business form Chelsea’s side if they get it over the line.
