Chelsea Injury Update: Latest News And Return Dates

Chelsea’s Injury Woes Updates

The footballing season has entered the business end. There is always more at stake at this point of the season. All the teams are hoping for a positive injury update so that their full roster is available for the run-in. Chelsea are a club who are in a highly competitive Top 5 race. There are no clear favourites between Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest to grab the Champions League spots right now.

Chelsea had a worse injury list last season, and it had a profound effect on their outcomes. This season the injury situation has been better for Chelsea, but they still have some players out. However, there is good news for Chelsea fans as the injury list is now depleting.

Roméo Lavia has already returned to the team and the midfield looks very strengthened. Chelsea immediately look more comfortable in possession with Caicedo, Lavia and Enzo present in the midfield.

Chelsea are right now competing on two fronts: the Premier League and the Conference League. Therefore, Chelsea also need their squad players fit as well, and it seems their wishes have come true. If reports are to be believed, Malo Gusto and Marc Guiu might soon be making their return to the squad.

Chelsea Players Updated Return Schedule After Injury

Malo Gusto missed the win over Everton after being forced out during the triumph against Fulham the week before. However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is optimistic the right-back won’t be out for long. On Friday, Maresca informed reporters that Malo Gusto was hurt, but it doesn’t appear to be a serious injury. “He’s not going to be available tomorrow, but he’s already jogging and doing stuff outside. I’m hoping he’ll be able to make it to the next one.”

Malo Gusto is expected to make his return from the injury in May for the conference league semi-final.

Marc Guiu, the Spanish striker, pulled his groin while stretching during Chelsea’s victory over West Ham. This unfortunate injury has been keeping him out since January’s transfer deadline day. Maresca said earlier this month that he is making good progress in his recuperation. The management gave reporters an updated return schedule last week.

Marc Guiu is also expected to return from the injury in May. Chelsea are optimistic that he can contribute in the last part of the season.

Wesley Fofana’s best chance this season is to make it back in time for the Club World Cup, but it might be asking for too much. Chelsea revealed in a club statement that the Frenchman’s hamstring ailment necessitated surgery in early April. The Cobham training ground is where he is currently receiving recovery.

Fofana is expected to make his return from the injury in the summer of 2025.

Authors Opinion

Any football club at the top level cannot afford to dwell upon their injuries. Every team is expected to maximize the potential of resources available to them. Squad depth becomes very essential in these times. Therefore, Chelsea especially cannot have any excuses if they fail to finish in the Champions League spots.

Five Chelsea players have now been directly involved in 5+ goals in the Europa Conference League this season:

The Blues have spent a fortune building a strong squad. Chelsea are historically a ruthless club and Pochettino laid witness to that last season. However, now with injured players making their return, Chelsea will be looking to have a strong finish to the season. With Gusto returning, Reece James can afford to rest in the conference league games, thus being fresh for Premier League fixtures.

Cole Palmer could also spend some more time hovering around the opposition box after Lavia’s return. This feels like a good omen for Chelsea, who are desperate to finish in the Top 5 places. The Blues cannot attract the top level players across Europe if they do not secure the Champions League. Even from a financial point, Chelsea may have problems if they do not get the Champions League bonuses.
