Arsenal have made Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres their top striker target for the summer transfer window, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed.
The Gunners have reportedly identified the Sweden international as their priority choice to lead Mikel Arteta’s frontline next season and are expected to meet Sporting’s fee demands, which are around £60m.
Gyokeres is wanted by at least two clubs in the Premier League ahead of the market reopening, including Manchester United, whose manager Ruben Amorim knows the striker well from their time together in Portugal.
While there are suggestions that Man United’s potential edge in the race could be Gyokeres’ relationship with Amorim, O’Rourke claims Arsenal are now ‘ready to gazump’ their English rivals to snap up the 26-year-old.

Arsenal are prioritising a move for a new striker this summer amid an injury-hit season up front, with both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus suffering long-term setbacks.
The Gunners opted against bringing in a late signing in January, but are now expected to finally address their concerns up front, having endured another trophyless season.
The North London side are on course to finish second in the Premier League for a third year running, although they could slip further down the table if they fail to secure points in their remaining two games.
Gyokeres, praised as ‘unstoppable’, has enjoyed another stunning campaign at Sporting and could soon lead the Portuguese club to their second league title in a row.
Sporting are level on points with city rivals Benfica with one game to play, but are ahead on goal difference going into the final matchday on Saturday.
