NFL schedule makers reportedly gifted 49ers no game on Christmas

Some fans may have enjoyed watching the 49ers on Christmas Day, but that apparently won't be the case for the 2025 NFL schedule.

The full 2025 NFL schedule isn't quite live just yet, but it appears as if the full slate of Christmas Day games has been set.

And the San Francisco 49ers won't be partaking in the festivities.

According to multiple rumors and schedule leaks, summarized by CBS Sports' John Breech, the three-game set of Christmas Day games is as follows:

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (Netflix)

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Commanders (Netflix)

Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs (Amazon Prime)

If the leaks are to be believed, the NFL's Christmas schedule appears to be set:

• Lions at Vikings, 1 pm or 4:30 pm (Netflix)

• Cowboys at Commanders, 1 pm or 4:30 pm (Netflix)

• Broncos at Chiefs, 8:20 pm (Prime)

Cowboys, Lions and Chiefs all playing on 2 holidays.

Christmas falls on a Thursday this year, so it's not a fully altered schedule for any of the six squads involved on Santa Claus' big day.

As for the Niners, however, they escape having to play the holiday game and can instead opt to spend it with their families.

The last time San Francisco played on Christmas Day was back in 2023 when it lost to the visiting Baltimore Ravens, a primetime bout many felt could be a preview for that season's Super Bowl. Of course, the 49ers made it to the ultimate showdown but lost to the Chiefs in overtime.

Sure, some Niners fans may prefer their team play the equivalent of a primetime game on a holiday.

Personally, I'd rather casually watch other teams play on Christmas while spending time with the kid (and all his new toys) and family instead of having to dial in to every single play. Covering that 2023 Christmas game between San Francisco and Baltimore kept me busy while the rest of the family was having an enjoyable holiday dinner.

Of note, considering the Cowboys, Lions and Chiefs are all playing on Thanksgiving, too, the 49ers aren't scheduled to square off against any of those teams in 2025, meaning they dodged having to play on Turkey Day as well.
