Indiana football: QB Kurtis Rourke's full rookie contract, salary details with San Francisco…

Former Indiana star Kurtis Rourke became the first Hoosier quarterback selected in the NFL Draft in nine years after hearing his name called by the San Francisco 49ers. Rourke, who is on the mend from offseason ACL surgery, was selected by San Fransisco with the 227th overall pick in the 7th Round.

Rourke has since signed a four-year rookie contract with the 49ers. According to [**Spotrac**](https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/98028/kurtis-rourke), Rourke's rookie deal is worth $4.33 million through the 2028 season.

In 2025, Rourke will make $974,000 in base salary along with a $134,000 signing bonus. In 2026, Rourke will earn $1.005 million. In 2027, Rourke will bring in $1.12 million. In 2028, the final year of his rookie deal, Rourke will yield $1.235 million.

Rourke's contract is not fully guaranteed aside from the signing bonus. He will become an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2029 season.

The former All-Big Ten Second Team selection is competing with 49ers quarterbacks Brock Purdy, Mac Jones and Tanner Mordecai for a spot on the 53-man roster this fall. Rourke is still recovering from an ACL injury — which he played through in 2024 — but is [**expected to be fully healthy**](https://247sports.com/college/indiana/article/former-indiana-qb-49ers-draft-pick-kurtis-rourke-talks-fit-acl-rehab-ius-development-249392048/) for the start of training camp later this summer.

"I love the situation," Rourke said in a post-draft press conference. "The offense is so dynamic. I think there's a lot of similarities to last year at Indiana and the way they moved the ball and different types of offenses. Obviously, coach (Kyle) Shanahan's developed a great offense and I'm excited to be a part of it."

There are arguably few organizational fits better for Rourke than landing with the 49ers. Shanahan, who developed former 7th round pick Brock Purdy into a Pro Bowler, is known for his quarterback development and creative offenses. Add in playmakers like All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and All-Pro tight end George Kittle, and Rourke will have no shortage of playmakers in his first few seasons.

"Being able to come into a system where they took Brock (Purdy) a couple years ago, I'm really excited," Rourke said. "Really excited to learn from him, excited to learn from the coaching staff. They developed him into one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and I'm really excited to be a part of that, be a part of the organization and follow that path as well."

**SAN FRANCISCO GM JOHN LYNCH ON ROURKE:** "A guy that we really liked and I think displayed a lot of his toughness. Played a lot of the year on a partially torn ACL. It was a previous ACL that was done in 2022 and kind of a re-tear, but toughed it out, played through it, had surgery after the season. We took him with the understanding that he's not gonna likely be cleared until training camp.

"But we just felt like there was a lot of talent, a lot of ability. The guy plays the game the right way. You can't have enough good quarterbacks and wanted to add him to the mix, and we were able to add him in the 7th round and excited to do so."

**SAN FRANCISCO HC KYLE SHANAHAN ON ROURKE:** "Loved his size. Loved how he throws. Loved how he plays the position. Just especially watching him this year, I don't think it was coincidence how good of a year (Indiana) had with the type of quarterback they had. Did it the whole year with a broken (thumb), a torn ACL and still was really, really impressive.

"We're in a situation where getting a guy with a torn ACL, he probably won't be cleared until training camp, but it'll be close. But it's not an issue for us right now because obviously we have Brock (Purdy) and Mac (Jones) and love Tanner (Moredcai), too.

"Thought it was just a very good, valuable pick for us for a guy who might not be ready for another year because I think he's about seven months out (from sugery). We were in a situation where we could take him, and I think he would've gone a lot higher if he were healthy."
