Travis Kelce knows where the Kansas City Chiefs will open the 2025 NFL season--and he's not happy about it.
Ahead of Wednesday night's official schedule release, reports and rumors have indicated that the Chiefs will be in São Paulo, Brazil to face their division rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, on Friday, Sept. 5. This is the second consecutive season the NFL has played a Week 1 game in Brazil.
On this week's episode of the "New Heights" podcast, which dropped Wednesday morning, Kelce confirmed Kansas City is heading to South America.
"This doesn't come out till Wednesday? Yeah, we're definitely playing in Brazil," Kelce said, drawing loud laughter from his brother Jason.
There are different challenges to playing games overseas, and Kelce made it clear on the show he is not happy about "playing football in the f-----g heat."
"There's just something about getting closer to the equator. I don't want to put on a football uniform doing that. I've been in Jacksonville in September and that's f-----g miserable," he said, via Fox News.
Told that São Paulo is actually more inland, Kelce was still unimpressed.
"I will say this, if it's humid, I'm gonna be miserable," he said. "… If it's hot and humid, and it's kind a what I'm expecting, I'm going to be miserable but we're going to find a way to get a win."
The full NFL schedule will be released tonight, with the league already saying that the Sept. 5 game in Brazil will be exclusively streamed for free to a worldwide audience on YouTube and YouTube TV.
Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers in the season opener at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, taking their first step toward winning Super Bowl 59, which they did by demolishing the Chiefs.
We'll see if Kansas City or Los Angeles can use the game as their springboard to success this season.
