The last two league MVPs will square off very early in the 2025 NFL season, per multiple reports. The Buffalo Bills will host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football to kick off the season for both teams. The 2024 MVP (Bills’ QB Josh Allen) will face the 2023 MVP (Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson) for the first time since Allen beat out Jackson in voting for the Most Valuable Player.
Jackson was named first-team All-Pro at the quarterback position, and Allen’s win was the first time in decades that a first-team All-Pro wasn’t the MVP.
It’s the second year in a row that the last two MVPs will square off in Week 1, as the Ravens opened the season against Patrick Mahomes in 2024, with the Chiefs barely beating the Ravens. It’s happened two other times since the AFL/NFL merger as Brett Favre and Barry Sanders opened the season against each other in 1998 and Terry Bradshaw and Earl Campbell were on opposite sidelines in 1980.
The Bills and Ravens played each other in the playoffs just a few months ago, with the Bills coming out on top after two costly turnovers by the normally reliable Jackson. The only blemish on Allen’s day was one sack for one yard lost.
In the 2024 regular season, the tables were turned with Allen losing a fumble and taking three sacks playing catch-up while Jackson lost one fumble as the Ravens and Derrick Henry controlled the game.
