Former Chelsea and current Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is firmly on his way out of the Gunners at the end of this campaign. The player has agreed to a free transfer to the Brazilian side Flamengo, from the current seasons to follow on. The 33-year-old Italian who signed for the Gunners from Chelsea in January 2023 will ply the next season with the Brazilian domestic league. The move is set for announcement in June when the current deal for the player runs out at the Gunners.
Jorginho time at the Gunners:
After his coming to the North London at the Emirates for Gunners. Jorginho has been important at times for the Gunners midfield. As a player with experience in the Premier League already with the Blues. Jorginho perfectly fitted into the system of Arteta adding the right amount of weight and experience to the Gunners squad. This season for the Gunners he managed to make a total of 78 appearances in all competitions. Playing an important role in the team’s domestic and European campaign. But he will be departing with no trophies in his brief time for the Gunners. His departure has come with recent injuries, inconsistent performance, emerging talents and new signing to the midfield has made his playing time limited for his future.

Flamengo agreement with Jorginho:
Flamengo race to sign him was going on from the month of January. With the Brazilian team looking to make their team more stronger ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup. The team is managed by former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid player Filipe Luis. The side sees Jorginho experience as a valuable part for the squad. That is going to play a highly strong international competition. With reports coming in that Jorginho has verbally agreed to the terms of his contract at Flamengo. Which is set to announced after June before the starting of the tournament.
Move for Jorginho?
For him this move to Flamengo presents a well decision for the player. As he will be able to continue to play at a competitive level with a new league. As a Brazilian by birth despite his Italian nationality, the player can easily settle in the league. But the league as a new comes with its difficulties and opportunities. With the coming of the Club World Cup also provides a stage for him to perform his skills on the international once again. Which can help him grow even at such later stage of his career. With the Gunners looking to add new faces to their system. The club has reportedly signed Zubimendi from Real Sociedad as a new midfielder for the next season. With players like Thomas Partey also potentially leaving the club. The coming in of new players would also limit his game in the starting lineup. So this move would not provide regular starting spot but also an opportunity to lead the team with experience.

Author’s opinion:
Jorginho move to Flamengo marks the end of his journey with Gunners for a short time with impacts but with no trophies. His move to Brazil also ends his Premier League journey in England, where with the Blues he won the UCL. As the Gunners looks for new faces in the midfield, Jorginho look for a new road ahead for him in Brazil ready to make his mark in South American football.
