Chiefs Schedule Release Creates 'NFL's Official Holiday Team'

The Kansas City Chiefs have become must-watch television since Patrick Mahomes has taken over under center. The two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP is one of the league's brightest stars, and packaged with a fantastic Andy Reid-led defense, the Chiefs have become the NFL's darling.

The schedule makers and broadcast partners are all-too-aware of the star power of the Chiefs, and as a result, the Chiefs frequently find themselves in prime time, and the holiday season this upcoming season is no exception, as the Chiefs will be playing on a pair of holidays in 2025.

On Monday night, we learned that the Chiefs will host the Denver Broncos on Christmas Night, and on Wednesday morning it was revealed that the Chiefs will take a trip on down to Dallas to take on the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.

Per usual, the Cowboys are hosting the Thanksgiving Day game in the 3:30 p.m. CT time slot, this time taking on the Chiefs. It's the first Thanksgiving Day game for the Chiefs since 2006 when they defeated the Denver Broncos at home in the first ever primetime Thanksgiving matchup.

So ... Dallas gets to stay "America's Team.'' That's just the way it is.

The Chiefs, however, get to be "The NFL's Official Holiday Team''?

It's also not the first time the Chiefs and Cowboys have met on Thanksgiving. The two teams met on the holiday in the 1995 season, when both teams were among the NFL's best. The Cowboys bested the Chiefs in that contest, 24-12. Steve Bono completed 20 of his 36 pass attempts for 276 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough to beat the Cowboys, who ran for 118 yards as a team.

The Cowboys went on to win the Super Bowl that series while the Chiefs lost to the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round.

It comes as a surprise to some that the NFL chose to have the Chiefs face the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving day games, especially the ones that feature the Cowboys, are always highly rated. It should be a great matchup featuring two of the NFL's marquee teams.

The rest of the Chiefs' schedule will be released tonight, and will likely be littered with primetime matchups, as has become the norm for the team.
