Schefter Predicts 'Enormous' Steelers Draft ... In 2026

The Pittsburgh Steelers were recently referred to as a "dumpster fire' by the division rival Cleveland Browns in a social media meme.

While that's comical, it might not be far from the truth.

With the very public quarterback conundrum in 2025 - regardless of what Aaron Rodgers is up to next season - Pittsburgh isn't exactly set up for success next year.

Adam Schefter noted on The Pat McAfee Show that if 2025 doesn't turn out like general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin want it to, there is hope.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers, right now, have an enormous amount of draft capital for the 2026 draft. After this George Pickens trade, they are currently scheduled to have 12 picks in the 2026 draft,” Schefter said. “And we also know, whether or not they sign Aaron Rodgers, they’re probably gonna be back in the quarterback market again.

"So when you’ve got all these draft picks and you’ve got a great quarterback draft and the draft is in your city, all of a sudden it starts to get a little interesting to see where Pittsburgh’s going to decide to allocate its draft capital to see if it can make an aggressive push up the board to go get a quarterback, to see what the reaction in that city will be like.”

Pittsburgh is set to have three third-round picks at its disposal next season after the trades with Seattle and Dallas. Here is a breakdown of what the Steelers will be working with in 2026:

Round 1

Round 2

Round 3

Round 3 (from DAL)

Round 3 (comp pick)

Round 4

Round 4 (comp pick)

Round 5

Round 5 (comp pick)

Round 6

Round 6 (comp pick)

Round 7

The compensatory picks are projections from NFL.com's Lance Zierlein based on the team losing comp-qualifying free agents in Dan Moore, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, James Daniels, Donte Jackson and Najee Harris, and only added Malik Harrison and Mason Rudolph.
