David Carr on Derek Carr potentially un-retiring: 'He's moved on'

"He's moved on"

David Carr offered finality on his brother and former New Orleans Saints quarterback, Derek Carr's, future. Derek stepped away from the game this past weekend, announcing his retirement. Derek was attempting to manage a shoulder injury and ultimately he decided to retire instead of risking further damage.

There are some people who simply aren't convinced this is really it for Derek. The circumstances around his retirement are odd. The decision came out of the blue for many people, first of all. The shoulder injury has been questioned since the beginning, from the validity to the timing of the injury. It's all led to some to question if Carr is truly done with football.

Family cemented Derek Carr's decision

-------------------------------------

David Carr would say yes. The brothers are obviously close, and from the elder Carr's observation, a return to the sport is unlikely. “I can tell, just in the last couple of days, that he’s definitely done playing and he’s moved on," David said on [NFL Network's The Insiders](https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1922439437650186579).

Beyond just health, the Carr family may be what truly seals the deal for Derek. David admits, "I know that Derek loves the game. Here’s what I’ll tell you: More than anything, he loved the teammates, he loved being around the personalities." That can be enticing when it's all you know for the last decade in the NFL and probably a decade before that.

That tie to the sport doesn't hold more weight than his family. David pointed out, "His family, his boys and his little girl, are getting older. They’re getting to the point where they want to have dad around more and that means more to him than anything else.”

His family has always been something heavy for Derek. Carr's relationship with the Raiders was permanently severed by them making his wife cry. This decision aligns with the stance he took years ago, so it's no surprise his family would confirm his decision.
