49ers' regular-season finale could decide NFC West's fate in 2025

The 49ers are rumored to host the Seahawks in Week 18, a regular-season finale that could end up determining who wins the NFC West.

Despite undergoing a tumultuous offseason that saw a mass exodus of well-known talent, the San Francisco 49ers still have an excellent chance to win the NFC West in light of no other division rival truly going through a massive improvement entering 2025.

According to FanDuel (odds can and will change), the Niners are +180 favorites, slightly trailing the Los Angeles Rams at +160.

The relatively inconsequential gap suggests San Francisco could reclaim the NFC West title after finishing last place a season ago.

However, doing so might come down to the 49ers' regular-season finale, a home tilt against another divisional foe.

Week 18 finale between 49ers and Seahawks could determine NFC West

According to an unconfirmed NFL schedule rumor from @NerdingonNFL on Twitter/X, the Niners host the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Week 18.

Granted, this isn't official yet. But the league has made a habit of giving San Francisco in-division games to close out the regular season, so seeing the Hawks as a Week 18 opponent isn't exactly surprising and might be a fitting way to round out the 49ers' 2025 schedule.

The two teams reportedly face each other in Week 1, too.

Seattle and San Francisco split its 2024 season series at a game apiece, but in light of how hotly contested the NFC West could be in 2025, it wouldn't be a shocker to see the division winner come down to the winner of Week 18 between these two rivals.

The stakes might not be quite as high, but fans may be reminded of the 2019 regular-season finale at Lumen Field when linebacker Dre Greenlaw's "stop" at the goal line ensured the 49ers not only won the division but also clinched the No. 1 seed in the playoffs that year.

Plus, there could be tiebreakers at stake, too, especially if either team is eliminated from postseason contention but would stop at nothing to spoil the other's division record.

Either way, having the Niners and Hawks finish up the regular season at Levi's Stadium feels like a great way to close out the year in advance of the playoffs.

And the NFC West could be determined in the wake of it.
