Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love needs to focus more on his footwork because that starts everything. That’s what new QB coach Sean Mannion thinks.

The team promoted Mannion into main QB coach after the retirement of Tom Clements. It felt like the job was just waiting for him.
Mannion may have played just 14 games his entire nine-year NFL career but there’s a reason he managed to stay that long in the pro level.
Head coach Matt LaFleur spoke about the 2015 round pick’s high football IQ after his confirmation as their new QB coach in February.

He immediately went to work and will subject Love to more footwork training because he believes in its capacity to help a quarterback to control the game better.
Sean Mannion on his work with Jordan Love
Mannion spoke with reporters on Wednesday to preview his working relationship with Love who shortly after their 2024 exit was told to improve.
“I think it’s ownership of our progressions and timing and reading with our feet,” Mannion said.
“And then just the fundamentals of the position. For me, it really starts with footwork. That’s something that all quarterbacks need to focus on, but I know really when I first was exposed to it was with Matt in L.A. in 2017. It was kind of a foundational moment in my playing career. I got so much better from understanding how the footwork helps your accuracy, it helps your decision making, it helps the timing of the play.”

Footwork is something LaFleur has emphasized even in 2024. He wanted everyone, not just the quarterback, to have ‘perfect feet.’
“Making sure the guys go through their progressions, having perfect feet. And when they’re not, they hear about it. I just think, again, offseason, where we’re at, new defense, it’s important for them to understand the drops that we want them to take, so we implemented it.”
