Pittsburgh Steelers will unveil new throwback uniform, helmet in primetime clash

The Pittsburgh Steelers will unveil a new throwback uniform and helmet during the team’s Week 8 Sunday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers.

Team President Art Rooney II says the team will reveal those uniforms leading up to the game.

Meanwhile, they will also wear their color rush jerseys against the Miami Dolphins on December 15 when they face off on Monday Night Football. The Steelers have continued to wear their color rush jerseys yearly.

“We are going to have a new throwback uniform this year, and with a new helmet to go with it. We’re planning to wear our new throwbacks for the Packers game on Sunday night, Oct. 26. It’ll be fun to wear our throwbacks against one of the older franchises in the league – that just seems to be appropriate. We’ll be doing our color rush uniforms late in the year. I think we’re going to do it for the Monday night game on Dec. 15 against the Miami Dolphins.”

Since 2010, the Steelers have had just one helmet. The NFL has mandated that teams have only one type of helmet shell for player safety concerns, though teams could change the helmets’ designs if they wish,

However, that changed in 2022, when the NFL changed the rule, allowing teams to wear different helmets with alternate uniforms, some teams have taken advantage of that change, but the Steelers have yet to unveil a new alternate helmet from their usual one.

The Steelers wore gray facemasks in 2024 with throwback uniforms, harkening back to the 1970s teams. Pittsburgh wore gray facemasks until 1977 when they changed them to black.

The Steelers last had an alternate helmet in 2009, when they wore gold helmets with their 1960s-inspired throwback uniforms.
