Saints left off primetime slate for first time in 25 years

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The lights will be a little dimmer in New Orleans this NFL season.

For the first time since 2000, the Saints won’t appear in a single primetime game, marking the end of a 25-year run that saw the franchise become a regular fixture on national television.

The snub follows a tough stretch for the Saints, who have missed the playoffs four consecutive years and stumbled to a 5-12 record in 2024. The team is also in transition, with a new head coach and uncertainty at quarterback.

Kellen Moore takes over as head coach in his first year on the job, bringing in a fresh system and an offensive mind but little head coaching experience.

At 36, Moore is the youngest in the league to hold the role.

The quarterback position remains unsettled. With veteran Derek Carr retiring, rookie Tyler Shough, a second-round draft pick, enters camp as the projected starter. He’ll compete with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener for the job.

The Saints will have 17 chances to prove they’re better than the schedule suggests. None of them will come under the Sunday, Monday or Thursday night lights.
