Arsenal handed huge Viktor Gyokeres£60m transfer update as double exit reality emerges

Arsenal will be looking to end the season strongly and mathematically secure their place in next season's Champions League with just two games left to play.

Mikel Arteta knows that it has been a challenging campaign by the Gunners' own recent high standards. While a top-five finish in the Premier League is almost certain, Arteta's men have been some way off champions Liverpool, and they are in a battle to finish second in the table.

But there is hope at the Emirates Stadium that a summer transfer window could see the right players signed to finally end Arsenal's wait for silverware. Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres has been one of the names heavily linked amid his impressive performances up front for the Portuguese club in recent seasons.

Below are some of the latest headlines surrounding Arsenal as well as a view on each one...

Gyokeres update

Arsenal have reportedly been told Viktor Gyokeres is all theirs for £60million.

Our colleagues at *The Mirror*report that there is believed to be an agreement for Gyokeres to leave Sporting if a club pays 70m Euros - just over £60m - with the Portuguese giants already earmarking cash for a rebuild next season. The price could go higher if there is a bidding war which puts the pressure on to get a deal done.

Isaac Seelochan of football.london says: "Gyokeres was never going to come cheap, but £60m would represent excellent business. It's not a lot of money in the current market for strikers and could pay off for Arteta's men if they can get a deal done."

Exit fears

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit fears that Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice could decide to look for a new club if William Saliba leaves.

"I’ve been reading things about Arsenal selling William Saliba to Real Madrid. I’m thinking, ‘what the hell?’" he said on talkSPORT.

“You want to bring in strikers, wingers, and then you sell your best defender? What’s the point? It’s a step back if you do that. The first step for Arsenal needs to be to keep their best players.

“If you start selling your best players, starting from Saliba, there’s no way that players like Saka and Rice… they will think, ‘what the hell? What are we doing?'”

Isaac Seelochan of football.london says: "It feels highly unlikely that either player would decide to leave Arsenal based off Saliba potentially going. However, if they continue to go without silverware, it is possible that clubs like Real Madrid and even some of the Gunners' Premier League rivals may become a more attractive proposition as seen before with Robin van Persie."
